The Application of Plastic Parts to Automobile Engines

As we all know, operating conditions for engines are complex and harsh, and they need to adapt to various external environments. Therefore, higher requirements are put forward for engine parts, especially in terms of engine-related resin materials. Resin is used due to the high requirements for operating temperature and pressure. In automobile engines, thermoplastic engineering plastics are commonly used. Taking the engine as an example, the materials used for plastic auto parts are mainly as follows:

PUR
Fuel pipe protection covers, high-pressure fuel rail protection covers, high-pressure fuel pump protection covers, high-pressure fuel pump frame covers are used to protect the components and eliminate abnormal noise. This foamed plastic is used because the shape can be maintained after molding, while the texture is softer and the cost is lower.

PA66 containing PA66-GF reinforced materials
PA66 is used for dipsticks, intake manifolds, cylinder head covers, chain tensioner arms, mufflers of solenoid valves of engine carbon canisters, etc. This material has better fatigue strength and rigidity, and its blended modified material has better wear resistance and heat resistance.

PA46 containing PA46-GF reinforced materials
It is mainly used for parts of the throttle. This material has excellent heat and wear resistance, but it is generally used less due to its high costs.

PA6
It is used in oil filters, which has the advantages of high strength and wear resistance, durability after good glass fiber reinforced, and good mechanical properties.

PPA
PPA is used for water jackets for engines, because the water jacket is used in high temperature and humidity for a long time. PPA has good tensile strength under high temperature and humidity, good heat resistance and coolant resistance.

PBT
PBT is mainly used for some parts of the ignition coil, because it has excellent electrical properties and flame retardancy. Meanwhile, the heat aging temperature is relatively high, which can meet the working conditions of the ignition coil.

PPS
PPS is mainly used for some parts of ignition coils. First, PPS has very low water absorption. Second, it has good flame retardancy. Third, it has good heat resistance, electrical properties, and  creep resistance under loads.
